To the question that a year ago you had mentioned that the level of corruption in Armenia does not allow to attract more major investments in Armenia’s economy, so whether something has been changed in this respect, today, the US Ambassador to Armenia, H.E. Richard Mills, attending the “US Business Briefing: Armenia” forum organized at the “Marriott Armenia” hotel, said, “Last week, RA Prime Minister said that the corruption is present in Armenia, and the American businessmen should reckon this fact and know how to deal with it.”
The ambassador also said that the conference is also attended by experienced American companies, “Today, in my remarks, I can tell them that they have colleagues in Armenia in the field of media, Government, entrepreneurial and civil society, with whom they can work together in the fight against corruption and ensuring equal conditions. The best way in the fight against corruption in entrepreneurial filed, in my opinion, would be having examples that it is possible to successfully do business without corruption, and I believe that the American companies can serve as a good example. ”
According to the ambassador, the goal of the “US Business Briefing: Armenia” Conference is that major American companies are in Armenia that already have extensive business experience in post-Soviet Union countries and today, they are being introduced to the entrepreneurial opportunities in Armenia. As Richard Mills said, these companies are from the sphere of consumer goods, engineering, information technologies, “I would like to be clear that there are always opportunities for those American companies that come here prepared and are willing to be engaged in entrepreneurial activities. Reforms have been carried out in the last decade that has enabled to implement investments in Armenia. Reforms were made in the spheres of tax, customs, and protection of intellectual property rights. As a result, large investments were done by the American companies, including the acquisition of “Vorotan” cascade by Contour Global company, which is the largest American investment in Armenia.”
