“What does it mean to mount an attack on the police building? What century do we live in, hey man?” – so responded Sukias Avetisyan, a deputy of the Republican Party, referring to the armed attack of Sasna Dzres (Daredevils of Sassoun) on the police station. Recall that Varuzhan Avetisyan, Vice-Chairman of the Founding Parliament, announced that they have seized the police station in Erebuni administrative district. There are policemen holding as a hostage: General Yeghiazaryan and Colonel Valery Osipyan. According to the RPA MP, Sefilyan’s supporters’ actions are a crime and they should be punished very severely. “What is this? Did they take the example of Turkey, or are inspired of Turkey?” – said Sukias Avetisyan.
In response to our observation that they call on the public to join the rebels, Avetisyan said, “Our people are very discreet and will not be drawn with such calls. Today, we have a Constitution, if someone wants to take the power, let them do it by the opportunity given by the Constitution. What, do people have no other problems and be constantly afraid of these problems, eh? Such a thing is unacceptable, God willing everything will end up successfully.” As mentioned by the MP, “There are authorities, there are political forces, let them go and try to negotiate and discuss their disagreements. What does it mean to hold an armed rebellion on the police department?”
To our observation that the “Founding Parliament” has constantly urged the Republican Party to surrender the power, Avetisyan said, “Whom to surrender the power? The call that they are making, we must understand whom to surrender. The power is not surrendered like that, the power is not taken like that saying, come and take. It is a government elected by people, this is not someone’s desire to surrender this one or that one. Here you are, let them work for five days and be able to attract people to their side in 2017 and let them be elected.” According to some rumors, the Sasna Dzres group has run into the police station by a car and mounted an attack, Republican MP so responded on this, “They saw such a thing in Nice, in Turkey, they also saw some generals rising, and they thought, “What’s up? Let’s do it here too.” It is unacceptable. I think that the authorities and law enforcement bodies are able to give a denouement shortly to avoid having victims.”
