The former Minister of Justice and the member of the Republican Party of Armenia, Davit Harutyunyan, was asked to comment on the latest disclosures of the appropriation cases during his term of office, in which the members of the Republican Party of Armenia are involved. He said: “There are always people who commit crimes and my attitude toward the criminals does not depend on the fact if they are RPA members or not. RPA has had a lot of members and levers of power. It is natural that more problems should have arisen here than at a party having fewer members. There is nothing to get surprised of, I think. Yes, it is a painful phenomenon, but I disagree when they say the RPA is responsible for that. I do not understand what you say at all.”
Asked if the fact that such disclosures were not made during his term of office did not speak of the absence of a political will, for example, the director of “Hayastan All Armenian Fund” was disclosed using the fund’s money for his own interests by putting a bet in days, then why similar disclosures were not made in RPA’s term of office, Davit Harutyunyan replied: “I can say that such scandalous disclosures were made similar to the ones these days, but nevertheless, disclosures of the cases involving RPA members were made as well, simply we have not made much noise about them, but people were punished. Time will tell if a political will is present today or not, inasmuch as either some questions arise or the answers lack to some texts that I read, as a professional. You mentioned “Hayastan All Armenian Fund”. Apart from the announcement implying that he has entered his personal money to the accountancy to veil the wastage is not clear to me. If he has paid all the money from his own pocket, I would not regard it as a violation then.”
He further said he was inclined to justifying anyone neither now, nor previously.
