Prime Minister about Alexander Sargsyan: ‘A citizen applied to me and I endorsed it to National Security Service’

July 11,2018 04:35

“I have not set a task for the National Security Service to make major discoveries. I have told that there must be legitimacy”, referring to the National Security Service actions taken against the third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s brother Levon Sargsyan and his family, said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

As for the actions taken in the apartment of Serzh Sargsyan’s second brother, Alexander Sargsyan, Nikol Pashinyan noticed: “People think that the government has decided to detain him, but it is not so. There was a citizen who applied to write to me stating that he had faced a problem. Pictures that belong to him were snatched out of his hands. Thus I endorsed the application to the National Security Service”. Let us remind that according to the National Security Service, Martiros Saryan’s paintings found in Alexander Sargsyan’s apartment belong to one of his descendants.

The Prime Minister also responded to the public’s criticism that Alexander Sargsyan was “arrested and released”. The Prime Minister said: “Arresting people should not be an end in itself, the facts should be checked. Why do you think as if I call and tell whom to arrest and to release? Let me repeat, everything should be legal. One may be arrested for ten times and released, and the other may be arrested only once and not be released”.
