June 22,2019 00:52

The Embassy of Armenia to Georgia reports that citizen of the Republic of Armenia Minas Minasyan, who was studying in Tbilisi, was arrested during the protests in the Georgian capital.

Minas Minasyan will remain in custody for 13 days.

Let us remind you that the reason for the protests is because Russian MP Sergei Gavrilov participated in the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy that was held in the parliament building’s meeting room. During this meeting, he sat in the seat of the Georgian parliament chairman. People gathered in front of the country’s parliament building and demanded that the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, resign. Some people tried to break through the police cordons in order to enter the parliament courtyard. After midnight, riot police started firing rubber bullets and tear gas. According to the Georgian government, 240 protesters were taken to hospitals with injuries. Later, Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, announced that Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia has resigned. Kaladze stated that the decision was made because of the government’s high sense of responsibility towards the Georgian nation.
