Discussions underway for Apricot Festival to be held in Ararat province

February 26,2020 19:23

“2019 was a good year,” the governor of the Ararat province, Garik Sargsyan, said at the Armenpress press club. He said that it was a good year because, unlike 2018, everything flourished in 2019, including subsidies, a good harvest, roadwork, and more.

The provincial government is seeking to pave the road that connects the Ararat province to Garni. This is a road that has been forgotten; few people know that there is such a road that connects Ararat to Kotayk. There are also plans to open a museum in the region. The governor does not know when work will begin for this project. He said that the issue lies with the Tourism Committee. There has been such a plan for a long time. Sargsyan said that they have received a grant and the museum will be near ancient Dvin. “There have been a lot of archaeological findings here. These ancient artifacts are out in the open, which means that there is a huge risk of something happening to them.”

There are also discussions underway for an apricot festival to be held in the Ararat province. The governor said that the areas in which apricots ripen the fastest are Armash and Surenavan. So, there are plans for a huge festival to take place, and then for a huge harvest festival to take place in the fall.

Sargsyan also spoke about the slaughterhouses. He said that there are individuals who want to make investments in the Ararat regions. He spoke with them about where the slaughterhouses need to be build so that they can be equidistant from one another. They must be accessible. There also will be mobile slaughterhouses. “We have mapped out 17 places for these slaughterhouses and presented the maps to the investors. This problem needs to be resolved by June 1st.”
