“Usually, Azerbaijan carries out such operations right before the negotiations phase or when representatives of international organizations visit the region. However, the rise in tensions and conflict that took place at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border instead of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border have an inner-political nature. Azerbaijan is trying to find an external enemy and use that to draw attention away from internal political issues,” political analyst Alexander Margarov said during an interview with Aravot Daily about the attacks at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border by Azerbaijan.
He stated that the post-pandemic situation is not good in Azerbaijan, either. “The decrease in the price of oil also caused the socioeconomic crisis. But only examining the internal political factors in Azerbaijan will not provide us with a complete picture. In essence, Azerbaijan is trying to show that it has, or it believes it has, the power to resolve the issue through the use of force. However, that is not justified as we have seen over these past two days.”
According to Margarov, the Armenian side has adequately shown its preparedness to continue the negotiations process, but the issue is currently involving the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This causes other types of tension from the perspective of regional instability. “Azerbaijan is violating the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, which can cause the international community to respond to Azerbaijan’s aggressive policies. They may condemn it. That is why Armenia needs to use its informative potential and not allow Azerbaijan’s “facts” and information channels to cause problems for the Armenian side.”
