On July 2, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Sinanyan, participated in the international conference “Layers of Repatriation,” organized by the History Museum of Armenia to mark the 80th anniversary of the 1946–1949 Repatriation. Accompanied by the Museum’s Director, David Poghosyan, the High Commissioner also toured the exhibition of the same title.
During the conference, the High Commissioner delivered welcoming remarks, emphasizing that repatriation is one of the most significant chapters in Armenia’s modern history and has played a pivotal role in shaping the Republic of Armenia as we know it today.
“Repatriation is an inseparable part of our country’s modern history. I am pleased that this important historical chapter is receiving renewed scholarly attention and recognition, because repatriation is an experience from which we can draw valuable lessons to better organize the repatriation processes of today and the future.
I am also pleased to note that in recent years we have recorded a significant increase in repatriation,” said Zareh Sinanyan.
The international conference aims to offer new perspectives on the museum collections related to the 1946–1949 Repatriation, while also exploring the social, cultural, and historical dimensions of this significant chapter in Armenia’s history.
