The head of the I Have Honor faction, Artur Vanetsyan, filed a lawsuit against the former Deputy Minister of Defense and current Civil Contract deputy Gagik Melkonyan. The latter had announced on the Public TV channel, “Vanetsyan went and escaped. His coming and going were the same. They went, got there, and gathered their weapons. They knew that there were many weapons scattered about. They brought those weapons to Armenia. Their goal was to gather weapons.”
In response, Gagik Melkonyan said that he had no problem- they will meet in court, but he said he was speaking in general and only mentioned Vanetsyan for a moment. Aravot Daily asked Gagik Melkonyan if he was backing down from his words or if he would insist on what he said and go to court. He answered, “No, I am waiting for the court to issue a notice. Let’s go to court and resolve our issues in court.”
During Aravot Daily’s Red Line program, I Have Honor faction deputy Tigran Abrahamyan said, “Those who knew Gagik Melkonyan until 2008 will say who Gagik Melkonyan was in the army and what heroic deeds he did in his position. There is a great intrigue in it…” As for his statement about Vanetsyan escaping the battlefield, Abrahamyan countered, “And where was Gagik Melkonyan? He was at different people’s restaurants in Karvachar.” In response to the question of how the opposition has made such an observation and what he has to say about this, Melkonyan said, “What should I say? People who think restaurants were operating in Karvachar must be stupid.”
Freedom fighter Pavlik Manukyan used to say that Gagik Melkonyan was a businessman in uniform instead of in court or in prison. Melkonyan responded, “I am not a businessman, I have no business and today I am an deputy.” We clarified if he told trust management that he does not have a business, and he assured that he didn’t. In response to the question about his assessment of how people are worried that participants of the 44-day war who deserved it did not receive medals or titles, and how there are similar opinions in connection with the first Artsakh war that the worthy were not appreciated, Gagik Melkonyan answered, “Before this, there were many people from the Artsakh War who were ignored. There are many people who showed that they are heroes who participated, and there are people who took advantage of it a lot after the war by showing off. They were able to approach in different ways, show gratitude, and make use of everything.”
