If you ask me who is the person who strengthens Nikol Pashinyan’s rule with his activities, then my answer will be unequivocal – Robert Kocharyan. It is not about a conspiracy or any agreement. I think the second president sincerely wants to overthrow the current prime minister and return to power. However, being the de facto leader of the largest opposition faction in parliament and the organizer of the largest street protests, Kocharyan is objectively contributing to the extension of the current government.
- No matter how much the citizens are dissatisfied and disappointed with Pashinyan’s government, no matter how much they think that the current regime is to blame for the catastrophic defeat, most people are not ready to stand by Robert Kocharyan to take any action. For example, no one will force me to participate in the rally organized by the second president as a citizen. Kocharyan is not perceived by many as a politician, especially as a leader of the street struggle. In the palaces, in the hardware intrigues, yes, he is strong, maybe unsurpassed, but in the square his words do not sound sincere. And let me remind you that in 2021, the majority of citizens voted for the Civil Contract so that “the former will not return.”
- The opposition led by Robert Kocharyan does not offer any real alternative to the current foreign policy course of the government. No representative of the Armenia alliance says, “Let’s tear apart and throw away the November 8, 2020 paper,” “Give up the demarcation or delimitation talks,” “We are against the unblocking of roads,” or anything like that. In essence, it says, “We will conduct the same type of negotiations, only we will do it better, because they talk to the defeated government from top to bottom, and they will talk to us as equals.” I would not say that this judgment is completely meaningless- it gives a certain tone to the process, but I think it does not change its content. The words “traitor,” “capitulator,” and “land giver” have no political content. I do not understand what it means to “resist Turkification.”

- Kocharyan’s rallies give Pashinyan an opportunity to report to his sponsor, Putin. “Look, the revanchists have gathered, they want a war, they want to thwart the talks. I am the only person who can prevent it.” And Putin, who is in constant contact with Erdogan and Aliyev on these issues, will, of course, do his best to keep Pashinyan in power until their agreed plans are implemented.
There are well-prepared figures with interesting ideas in the Armenia alliance. Kocharyan hinders them.
