Conclusions need to be drawn

November 13,2022 13:03

The speech prime minister Pashinyan made during a government session accurately depicts the Azerbaijani policy on the matter of Armenia and Artsakh. Yes, Aliyev does sign a statement in Sochi according to which he takes responsibility to withdraw threats of applying force, yet a few days after he issues distinct threats of engaging in violence. Yes, the president of Azerbaijan is eagerly waiting for the Russian peacekeepers’ term to be over in order to commit genocide in Artsakh. Yes, that country uses provocations on Armenian borders in order to carry out another extensive attack.

The remark Edmon Marukyan made, saying that Azerbaijan distorts the essence of signed documents and there is no actual guarantee that it won’t “interpret individually” the peace treaty if it ever gets signed, can be added to this list. It is irrefutably true as well. Yes, we do need “peace guarantors”, however we are aware of who we’re dealing with, and those “guarantors” need to be armed regardless of the country they represent.

But after pointing all of that out, we need to come to relevant conclusions and while continuing being in contact with the Turkish and Azerbaijani sides, reconsider the negotiation strategy, taking the points listed above into account. I also think that the government propaganda performed by experts, political scientists, pro-government parties, non-governmental organizations, and some of the members of the Civil Contract party, should be more discreet in case of Russia. Even if the propaganda does not come from the “above”, not only is the contrast of “west good” authority and “Russia bad” opposition not content with the realityn (the government, according to their own words, is the most pro-russian, actually), but it also creates unnecessary passions both internally and externally. Yes, Russia is an authoritarian and aggressive country right now. But no other country is able to (or wants to) provide Artsakh’s safety.

As it is apparent (from the speech delivered by the PM, for example), that everything leads to another war, public mobilization is necessary, which I have already said on another occasion. To perform the mobilization, the government ought to stop the paranoia flare-up about the previous authorities and the “witch-hunt”. It is not like anything threatens their thrones.
