The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, has repeatedly stated that “after Armenia recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, any claim about the lack of efforts of Russia and Russian peacekeepers seems doubly irrelevant.”
Commenting on this statement during Aravot’s “Areresum” program, political scientist Agassi Yenokyan said: “Zakharova says that if Armenia recognizes Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, then the Russians cannot be blamed. No, it is necessary to blame. The Russians are not told: to go and decide the status of Artsakh. The Russians are told to make it so the people there can live. They tell the Russians: make sure that the Azerbaijanis do not attack there, do not take villages, do not take heights, and do not shoot at tractor drivers. And finally, Lachine Corridor is under your control.
Let us remind you that according to point 6 of the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of Azerbaijan, and the President of the Russian Federation on November 9, 2020, “Lachin Corridor (5 km wide), which will ensure the connection of Nagorno Karabakh with Armenia and at the same time bypass the city of Shushi, remains Under the control of the peacekeeping troops of the Russian Federation.”
There is a point of view that Russia is trying to blame for not fulfilling its obligations on the Armenian side. “That’s why we only need to remember that Russia recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan before Pashinyan did it in Prague. In the presence of Russian peacekeepers, Azerbaijanis carried out aggression in Parukh, Karaglukh, Khtsaberd, etc.” The other guest of the program, analyst Arman Abovyan, specifically said in this regard: “Both the Russians, the French, and the Americans have repeatedly accepted de jure that Artsakh can be considered part of Azerbaijan, but at the same time, let me remind you that it was Russia that proposed to keep the Artsakh issue pending in 2021… In response, the Armenian side said (it was a process equal to absurdity): Well, the Russian said it; let the Russian defend that position as well. As for the functions of the Russian peacekeepers, it is clear that there are issues that must be discussed.
