General Joseph Aoun, the commander of the Lebanese army, was elected as the new President of the Republic of Lebanon by the Lebanese Parliament on January 9.
On this occasion His Holiness Catholicos Aram I extended a congratulatory letter. In his letter, His Holiness welcomed the new president and emphasized that this election signifies a new chapter in Lebanon’s modern history. He assured President Aoun that the Armenian Apostolic Church community in Lebanon stands by his side as an ally and is ready to participate in efforts to restore the country.
