Official Statement issued by the Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem
The Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem (ANCJ) welcomes the decision of the Government of Israel to recognize the Armenian Genocide, following the proposal put forward by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. This historic step reflects a commitment to truth, justice, and the universal values of human dignity and historical accountability.
For more than four decades, the Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem has worked tirelessly with successive Israeli governments, members of the Knesset, public officials, academics, and civil society to advance recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This achievement marks the culmination of years of persistent advocacy and principled dialogue.
We express our sincere gratitude to all those who, over the past forty years, have contributed to this just cause. We thank government officials, members of the Knesset, diplomats, scholars, community leaders, organizations, and countless individuals whose dedication and support helped pave the way to this significant milestone.
While today’s decision marks a major breakthrough, the process is not yet complete. We respectfully urge the Government of Israel to bring this recognition before the Knesset at the earliest opportunity for final ratification, thereby affirming Israel’s commitment to historical truth and to the prevention of genocide.
The recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not only an act of justice for the Armenian people but also a reaffirmation of the universal responsibility to remember the victims of genocide, confront denial, and ensure that such crimes are never repeated.
