The
Prime Minister Andranik Margarian had a notable conversation with the President
of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus.The first official visit of the Prime Minister
Andranik Margarian to the European countries began with Lithuania. Though we had
the same fate with Lithuania15 years ago and were the part of the same state but
now it is a clean and well-bred European country, the EU and NATO member. But
the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and the PM Algirdas Brazauskas received
Andranik Margarian with the respect as the person with political weight in Armenia
and stressed it in their welcoming speeches. The leadership of Lithuania was declaring
that they were ready to help Armenia to the EU and NATO that it seemed that it
wasn’t so difficult for us. The PM Brazauskas even declared in the joint press
interview that in his opinion Armenia had much more opportunities to reach to
the EU and NATO.The President of Lithuania Adamkus said during the meeting
of the RA Prime Minister that they were interested in keeping the peace and stability
in the Caucasian region and also wait for the assistance of the Armenian authorities.
The Lithuanians didn’t hide that they considered important the role and meaning
of Georgia in the region. The President of Lithuania even was interested: "What
does Andranik Margarian think of their suggestion about making Georgia the center
of collaboration of regional countries". He was also interested what our
PM Thought about the US activity in the region. Andranik Margarian noticed that
Armenia is for every collaboration, which is directed to establish and keep stability
in the region. The participation of Armenia in the "New Neighbors" regional
project is observed in this context. "I think this will help to provide for
the progress of the regional countries with the same value system,"- Mr.
Margarian noticed.The President of Lithuania was also interested in the Relations
of Armenia with Russia. It is said that though there are difficulties in the relations
of Lithuania and RF but it doesn’t prevent to keep good neighborly relations.
The PM Andranik Margarian noticed during his conversation with the President
of Lithuania; "We have to have good neighborly relations with the neighbors
as we can’t change them." Adamkus liked that idea very much and he repeated
it for several times. And when the PM said that Armenia waited for Lithuania assistance
in the relations between Turkey and Armenia without prerequisites, opening of
the borders the President of Lithuania noticed: "We understand your position
very well and we can say that we are with you. I liked your words that we can’t
choose our neighbors." Andranik Margarian invited the President of Lithuania
to Armenia by Robert Kocharian’s name, which was adopted with pleasure.Margaret
