GHAZAR WILL GO TO WAR AGAIN

December 06,2006 00:00

Some parliamentarians were making curtsy to Serge Sargsian.

Yesterday the parliament discussed the issue about prolonging the working date of Armenian humanitarian, peaceful military unit in Iraq. Defense Minister Serge Sargsian, emphasizing the importance of prolonging, mentioned: “Active participation in these processes gives additional instruments in international institutions and for seeking for our national interests in the relations with other countries”. And as the issue was being discussed in an open sitting, some of the parliamentarians used the opportunity to perform themselves but found them in a more amusing situation, as the Defense Minister wasn\’t hiding that he knew everybody very well and he was smiling under his very nose.
In general, it was obvious that Serge Sargsian\’s presence in the parliament was making a serious influence on some parliamentarians\’ behavior. Especially some non-authority parliamentarians were trying to be noticed by the Defense Minister. They even were joking and making wise speeches to please him.
Independent parliamentarian Victor Dallakian was so enthusiastic at the pathos of his speech that he approached to the Defense Minister and gave him the congratulating letter given by the Minister in time and said: “But I\’ll give the Minister not the original but the “Xerox”. Why? To keep them and maybe those documents will be given to the museum like Commander Andranik\’s sword. I think Defense Minister will take that gift.”
Hmayak Hovhannisian marked it as “the atmosphere of high- mutual curtsies.” And Defense Minister opposed later saying that it wasn\’t clear from Victor Dallakian\’s speech whether he was for or against prolonging the date of peacemaking forces.
Elder parliamentarian Rafik Petrosian pronouncing “Dear Minister” expression by a special emphasis proposed to make changes in the body of troops selecting such specialists who may work in the conditions of less danger. The Minister noticed that when the strike hits, it doesn\’t see it hits a doctor or a soldier.
It seemed the Minister\’s presence in the parliament was a good opportunity for “National Unity” to speak about its favorite “Kocharian-Sargsian duet” but the “NU” group leader Artashes Geghamian had just another behavior towards the Minister and didn\’t say any rough thing. And understanding that it may be noticed stressed: “It is difficult for me to speak just for the reason that if I try to ground the state interest of Armenia, tomorrow, the newspaper which defends Kocharian\’s interests will say: we were saying that Geghamian and Sargsian were intimate. Because they don\’t give a damn about the so-called state interest state security of Armenia.”
Arshak Sadoyan, who was though a \’Justice” member, made a speech different from the standpoint of the group and proposed to vote for prolonging dates of service of the body troop in Iraq. He even remembered Red Army, “agents of north”, criticized the Soviet Army, said that it wasn\’t able to defend anyone and added: “We aren\’t able to exert influence on geopolicy of the world. We mustn\’t isolate ourselves, especially when we are out of all ways and we\’ll be out of military-political developments of the world”.
Dashnaktsutiun hasn\’t changed its standpoint and will again vote against the proposal of prolonging the dates, “Justice” group will also vote against. Secretary of the group Grigor Haroutiunian noticed that the sitting should be closed to speak about everything specifically. Grigor Haroutiunian also asked: “What positive thing do we get, it was mentioned that our soldiers got there international training according to NATO standards. Why do you send 46, let\’s send a division to fight, to learn from mojahets or teach them, what a logic is it?” Serge Sargsian noted that if they affirmed in 2004 that they were against sending military forces to Iraq, nowadays “against” representatives would say the opposite. “Because the reason is very understandable .And the second, though they didn\’t want but said irrespective of their wish why they were against. The parliamentarian who considers himself a great politician and worries about the further fate of Defense Minister said a right thing, he said they didn\’t want to worsen the relations with the U.S.. Certainly we don\’t, and why should we spoil?”
Except Dashnaktsutiun and “Justice” the rest of parties will vote “for” and our forces will remain in Iraq.
