“We Can Pay 8m, but We Can’t Stand by You,” Friends of a Candidate for President Told Him

January 10,2013 22:16

“I have many friends who are businessmen and famous people. I will not name names, because they said as friends, as men that they supported me, if I wanted, they could pay 8m without telling me about it, but they couldn’t stand by me,” Taron Abrahamyan, a karateka who had announced his candidacy for president, made this comment during a conversation with www.aravot.am. He assures that the reason for withdrawing his candidacy was the very fact that his friends didn’t stand by him. “I said that I didn’t need his money. I ought to pay the money and be responsible for that money, be responsible for the campaign and carry it through. I don’t need money. I told them to distribute that money to needy families. Besides, pre-election and post-election games are very dangerous,” Taron Abrahamyan said.

We asked him to reveal whether his friends were those rich people of our country who wanted to secretly oppose Serzh Sargsyan, he replied: “There are problems that they cannot

solve. They cannot take big steps. They cannot take the step that will bring them to the final destination.” According to him, one should fight monopolies at the state level, and one cannot fight with threats. “A serious fight against monopolies today will cause another October 27. If you start a fight against monopolies, they will just come and kill you. End of story. They don’t forgive anything, because business is very dangerous. Businessmen risk their lives in Armenia these days; if you cause 10-dram damage to their business, they will put you out of the way. End of story.”
