“Among candidates for president, Serzh Sargsyan, Hrant Bagratyan, and Raffi Hovhannisyan have the most outstanding and resolute characters,” Isabella Ghazaryan, a psychologist expressed this idea during a conversation with www.aravot.am about Armenian candidates for president.
In response to our question which of the candidates was sure to win, Ms. Ghazaryan said: “Serzh Sargsyan, Hrant Bagratyan, and Raffi Hovhannisyan have chances to win, since they are the candidates who have the main psychological qualities for victory.”
We inquired whether there were outstanding personalities in this election campaign. The psychologist stated: “Paruyr Hayrikyan is a unique character just due to his past experience, his biography and approaches. However, one needs other psychological qualities, besides being an outstanding personality, to succeed in elections. The main emphasis is put on three important qualities: will, morality, and intellect. Naturally, all candidates have all three, but for example, Serzh Sargsyan obviously has a strong will, Raffi Hovhannisyan stresses moral and spiritual qualities, although the other qualities are also there. Paruyr Hayrikyan emphasizes nationalistic, spiritual, ideological, and moral characteristics. The rest are comparably new and try to create some psychological background. They take some line to be heard, since they don’t have political portfolio, biography, and experience. That is why someone boycotts, someone else writes letters, tries to attract attention and be visible with other unique approaches.”
I. Ghazaryan doesn’t see a charismatic figure among the candidates and states: “There are mainly no charismatic leaders in the modern world. Fidel Castro, one or two other figures. In my opinion, Hayrikyan was a charismatic figure at the time, but charisma sometimes disappears, and Hayrikyan has lost it. According to the modern approach, being charismatic is not the most important thing. A person’s functionality is deemed more important. And from the perspective of effectiveness, just as a character, as a person-function, a person-system, Serzh Sargsyan is the one. It doesn’t matter what results he has achieved, but he is in the system, he promotes the system and leads it; it is effectiveness.”
