Low Interest Loans for Armenian Syrians to Open a Taxi Service, a Garment Workshop, and Other Businesses

100 million drams have been spent on the project; Armenian Syrians will redeem a 5m-dram loan at 4% interest within 3 years

Hakob-Khachik Gazanchyan, an Armenian Syrian youth, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am that he had decided to produce environmentally friendly, cheap heating and cooling devices. According to Hakob-Khachik, those devices will be available for all social classes. “The devices I will produce will be for everyone, regardless of their social classes. It will meet the requirements of the people who have big businesses too. The cooling devices for hot weather; all will be cheap and available.” In response to our question whether he had calculated that it would be a beneficial business and whether he didn’t fear that he wouldn’t be able to realize the production, Hakob-Khachik said: “Perhaps people might think it is expensive at first, but when they calculate the prices of electricity and gas – they say gas is going to get more expensive – they will realize that this device is beneficial.” Hakob-Khachik has received a 5m-dram loan for that business of his within the framework of the Assistance to Armenian Syrians project of the Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development National Center. 27 Armenian Syrians who had participated in the Successful Start course received certificates to do business at the Ministry of Economy today. As Varazdat Karapetyan, the director of the Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development National Center, assured, during this course, Armenian Syrians had familiarized themselves with the taxation system, statutes in effect, and the loan was given at the interest rate of 4% and had to be redeemed within 3 years. However, depending on the business program, some businessmen might not pay for a few months, or pay partially; 100m drams have been spent on this project, and the amount will be increased in the short-run, if necessary. One of Armenian Syrians has received a loan to open a taxi service. In this regard, in response to our question what innovations the given businessman would introduce, since a resident of Armenia would hardly get a loan to open a taxi service, Varazdat Karapetyan said that they had taken into account that the person was an Armenian from Syria and had made a series of good proposals. “Firstly, they will not smoke in the car, it will be clean, the driver will speak politely to the customers, and the bottom line is the employees will be Armenian Syrians.” Watch the video.
