On September 25, during the public hearing held in the village of Tekali, Marneuli region, Georgia, Azerbaijani political analyst Zardusht Alizadeh announced, “Armenia’s unique culture and Azerbaijani unique culture do not exist. We have a common culture, common roots, common values and common poems. I would like to present an example: Armenian classical poetry eminent Sayat-Nova wrote in Georgian, Azeri, Armenian languages. But bear in mind that the authorities are not using this peace potential to bring these peoples closer. By official ideology, he is an Armenian poet, whom we should hate, even though he wrote more in Azeri, Turkish and Tatar languages, name it as you want. But he is also our poet, a great poet, but driven from the political state of affairs, we should forget about it. Sayat-Nova is presented to Armenians as an Armenian poet neglecting that most of his works were written in Turkish and Georgian languages. In general, he was the poet of the whole Caucasus, in a Georgian king’s court and created in 3 languages.”
