During a forum held in Washington D.C., Turkish-Armenian Member of Parliament, member of the Republican People’s Party Garo Paylan talked about the Armenian Genocide and the current state of affairs in Turkey.
“To understand the current situation in Turkey, we need to return to the beginning of the previous century, that is, the state of affairs preceding the Armenian Genocide. Armenians used to make up 20 percent of the population of Turkey. Today, we Armenians are even below 0.1 percent. We experienced genocide, and I was born to a family of survivors of the genocide,” the MP said.
Paylan drew parallels between the Armenian Genocide and the actions against the Kurds in Turkey today.
“One hundred years ago, the Armenians were being annihilated, and the same inhumane ideology is being used against the Kurds and all Democrats. As a result, Erdogan is firing allegations against those who criticize him and is referring to them as “terrorists”. According to him, he will continue that war until the last terrorist is eliminated. That is why 30-40 people are killed every day,” Paylan emphasized.
