‘Serzh Sargsyan being Prime Minister expedient at this historic period’: Garnik Isagulyan

January 26,2018 15:34

“Armen Sargsyan is one of the best presidential candidates to be nominated”, Garnik Isagulyan, Head of the “National Security” party opined. Referring to the criteria of the presidential candidate, Garnik Isagulyan noted, that it is not about Armen Sargsyan being political or apolitical, but about being politicized or not, and Armen Sargsyan is not politicized.

Mr Isagulyan told that he knows the candidate nominated by the Republican Party since 1977, when he was admitted to the Department of Physics at YSU: “There, he was already working as a lecturer. Armen has much better and kinder qualities than what the media write”.

As to the claims that the Republican candidate has not lived in Armenia for many years and is not familiar with the internal issues, the speaker did not agree: “Since 1992, he has been offered to leave for the United Kingdom as an ambassador. Any ambassador is considered a citizen of Armenia, the territory where they stay is considered to be the territory of the Republic of Armenia. This is a topic out of the question because wherever he was, he fulfilled the assignments received from the Armenian authorities”.

Touching upon “Yelq” faction MP Edmon Marukyan’s remark, that these elections will cause tension within the Republican Party since no Republican member has held an office for a long time, there will be dissatisfactions regarding that, Garnik Isagulyan continued: “Both prior to and after the Constitutional amendments Serzh Sargsyan pointed out that different positions within the Republic of Armenia will be held by both non-partisan, and members of different parties, that is, they will be guided by professionalism. I do not think the Republicans will withdraw from the thesis that they have put forward. In addition, the RPA representatives who are eligible to express their views, anyone I have talked to has a positive attitude about Armen’s candidacy”.

In response to the question whether Serzh Sargsyan proposed Armen Sargsyan’s candidature to pave his way to becoming Prime Minister, Garnik Isagulyan noted, that if Serzh Sargsyan wanted to pave a way for himself, he would not need any extra support and influence on this issue: “At the moment, I personally find it appropriate the current president to take the post of the Prime Minister. I do not even hide my position. It is expedient for Serzh Sargsyan to be Prime Minister at this historic period”.
