Relations between Armenia and Russia could have been deeper both in cultural and economic spheres. Armenian President Armen Sargsyan told in an interview with “Russia 24″ TV channel.
“To be honest, I am not satisfied with our relations, because, in my opinion, we could have deeper and more comprehensive relations. I am not satisfied with how we are presented in Russia, although about 3 million Armenians live in Russia, as much as in Armenia. The community is huge, but there is no quality of presence”, said Sargsyan stressing that it about the educational and cultural presence.
According to him, Armenia can become a real partner for Russia and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states in certain areas, such as new technologies. “IT technology is rapidly developing in our country, there is a huge potential”, added the President.
Touching upon Armenia’s membership in the EAEU, Sargsyan said that the potential of membership is not completely discovered either. “We need to work well, we have not yet shown our partners what Armenia can invest. In fact, it can become a strong partner in Eurasia”, Armen Sargsyan believes.
He also stressed that Armenia has signed an agreement with the EU and can contribute to the improvement of relations between Eurasia and Europe.
Armen Sargsyan also said he knows Russia well enough “from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad”, and although he has been an ambassador in the western countries for a long time, he feels comfortable in Moscow, in Astana as well. The Armenian President confessed that he dreams about visiting the Altai region.
In response to the journalist’s question whether it is possible that in future Armen Sargsyan decides to found a political party, the latter said: “First of all, this would contradict the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. How can the President, who is the guarantor of the Constitution, engage in politics?”.
