‘Authorities need to keep the tension everyday, but it should not be done at this price’: former Minister of Justice of Armenia to Special Investigation Service

July 05,2018 15:39

Aravot.am asked the former Minister of Justice, Davit Harutyunyan what issue he saw in the fact that the Special Investigation Service accused Mikayel Harutyunyan, the former Minister of Defence on March 1 case in complement with Part 1 of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for violating the constitutional order in agreement with other persons, when the Article did not exist in 2008, it was amended in 2009.

He replied: “I do not see an issue, but issues connected to the Constitution arise. It is simply necessary to read Article 72 of the Constitution. I understand that it is very important for the authorities to keep the tension every day but it should not be done at this price. I believe, this was a very serious blow both to other disclosures and the objective overall. This haste, in the result of which Constitutional norms are violated, is unacceptable. It is painful to me to mention about it and I am hopeful that today our law enforcement bodies will treat their job more keenly, I refer to them first and foremost, inasmuch as by such mistakes they disvalue other works, too.”

To the statement that the Chief of SIS has explained that Article 300 was in place, the description of which was the same, Davit Harutyunyan responded: “Compare them by yourselves and you will see.”
