Lately, Nikol Pashinyan, Armenian Prime Minister, had called on Armenian citizens under 27 having avoided military service to return and serve in the army.
From 1 to 10th of July, approximately 100 searched have returned to the Republic of Armenia: the number exceeds last year’s indicator, informed Lieutenant Colonel of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, Khachik Muradyan.
According to him, the Police find the number will increase in the near future: “Only today 4 more people have called the Police and asked about the return.”
Khachik Muradyan assured the searched would not be arrested in checkpoints and airports: no such preventive mean is envisaged. “After the PM’s call, the attitude towards returning to the Republic of Armenia has sharply changed,” said Mr. Muradyan.
He also announced that in the mentioned time 135 persons under 27 had paid the fine provided by law for escaping military service.
As reported by Khachik Muradyan, 200 more youths have applied for service, in the case when they were not registered in the list envisaged from March to June. “Overall, 11.000 youths under 27 are searched currently,” concluded Mr. Muradyan.
