‘Russia’s interference in Robert Kocharyan and Khachaturov’s cases is at least odd’: political scientist

August 05,2018 15:33

According to the political scientist, Ara Papyan, the detention of the Second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, does not still mean that the particular preventive measure is going to be kept for good or the court is going to decide that he is guilty importantly. “The final decision will be made by the court, but they have found the detention most proper for the moment, to carry out an investigation without any influences,” said Ara Papyan.

Asked if according to him Russia is dissatisfied with the fact that criminal prosecution is being carried out against the Second President of the Republic of Armenia and CSTO Secretary General, Yuri Khachaturov, Mr Papyan replied: “Currently the position of CSTO Secretary-General is given to the Republic of Armenia. Is there any notice that the position is Khachaturov’s? No, it is Armenia’s position. Consequently, the authorities of the Republic of Armenia can replace their representative at any moment. Khachaturov is the citizen of the Republic of Armenia and has no connection with Russia. Therefore, Russia’s interference in Khachaturov’s, as well as Robert Kocharyan’s cases is at least odd’. They are the citizens of the Republic of Armenia who presumably have violated the laws of the Republic of Armenia. No one, especially the Foreign Minister of a foreign country has a right to express his opinion on this matter, except for Armenian courts,” he said.
