“I consider Hunan Poghosyan’s appointment to be baseless. We have evaluations that are based on the work of the police during the former administration that comprise of many reports, analyses, and publications regarding illegal activities. Hunan Poghosyan was the deputy of that structure. The question now is how he didn’t face punishment for all those illegal activities? These are our evaluations. This has nothing to do with political parties. And those evaluations have not changed,” lawyer Artur Sakunts said.
According to him, the activities of the police during the former administration were negative. The police was a structure that had used violence against the opposition and activists. According to the lawyer, it’s contradictory to appoint someone who represented a negative organization to be part of a government that the people elected.
“The snapshots that officials had during the previous administration can be considered a resource for appointing officials during the current administration. But if the former administration was removed as a result of the Velvet Revolution because the people had no trust in it, then how can officials who had a role to play in that loss of trust be a resource for the new administration? Such appointments are made based on the people’s trust, but can such nominations promote people’s trust? Of course not.”
