Nikol Pashinyan, John Bolton discuss issues on Armenian-American relations agenda

Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by U.S. President Donald Trump’s national security advisor John Bolton. Welcoming the delegation to Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan said: “I am pleased to welcome such a high-level delegation, which is paying a historic visit to Armenia. It is extremely important for us to have high-level contacts with the United States. Our Government is keen to see an active dialogue and close cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United States.”

The Acting Prime Minister spoke about the ongoing political events in Armenia and stressed that our country is going through a historic period. “The processes resulting from the revolution of love and solidarity are based exclusively on democratic values. We are now working to create and strengthen a sustainable and institutional democratic State,” Nikol Pashinyan said, stressing the importance of democracy in our country, the transparent governance system and the strengthening of an independent judiciary through effective cooperation with international partners. The Acting Head of Government emphasized that Armenia is moving resolutely toward the development of democracy, which is a deep conviction and value for our society.

John Bolton thanked for the welcome and conveyed warm greetings on behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump. The U.S. President’s national security advisor said that in this period of historic significance for Armenia, they highlight the importance of developing and deepening Armenian-American relations.

“I am pleased to discuss with you a wide range of bilateral and regional issues regarding Armenian-American relations. I congratulate you on Armenia’s successful democratic transition. The United States supports the new government’s efforts to fight corruption, increase transparency in the judiciary and the government’s accountability to citizens, thereby contributing to democracy, legality and regional stability,” John Bolton said.

The parties reviewed a number of issues on the agenda of bilateral relations. In particular, they discussed the expansion of democratic institutions, the development of the economy, the improvement of the judiciary, the development of civil society in our country and stressed the importance of coherent measures to give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation. In this regard, Nikol Pashinyan and John Bolton stressed the need to reciprocate high-level visits more frequently.

The Acting Prime Minister of Armenia and the U.S. President’s national security advisor exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process. Both sides stressed the need to take consistent steps toward the peaceful resolution of the conflict under the co-chairing mechanism of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as to create an atmosphere conducive to the negotiation process. The parties discussed a number of other international issues, including the processes underway in the region.
