“The spread of the coronavirus in our country continues to increase,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a briefing.
As far as why this is happening, Nikol Pashinyan said, “Our main issue is how well we uphold the pandemic rules and the quality at which we uphold them. We are convinced that following the rules will decrease the number of coronavirus cases until they reach zero.”
According to Nikol Pashinyan, the origins of their authority in this situation is working against them. He explained, “After the events of 2018, the atmosphere of fear essentially disappeared, but instead, the law enforcement sector has not reached the appropriate level. We have to deal with a situation where there are issues with following the rules and responding to violations.”
Nikol Pashinyan said that they expect there to be changes in the level of enforcement of the rules and quality. He said that there was a State of Emergency Command session and emphasized, “We need to follow the rules of the pandemic as strictly as possible without considering any arguments. We need to subject citizens to administrative fines. They need to think about this situation. We have two choices to make. We either have to go back under lockdown, have a curfew, and include new rules because the rules are not being upheld, or we need to work together to control this situation. This is the choice we have to make. Regardless of these two scenarios, we need to follow the pandemic rules as closely as possible without considering any arguments. This has been my order to law enforcement and I will make sure that this order is implemented.”
