‘I do not know how stupid they have to be to go there and arrest soldiers, they will just be tied up and brought to this square’: Khachaturov

“Why didn’t I participate in these rallies until now? Because I felt a little uncomfortable due to the passivity of the army. But today, I am very happy that our army finally woke up and made a decision. Now, there are rumors that some armed individuals want to arrest generals. I don’t know how stupid they have to be to go there and arrest soldiers. They will just be tied up and brought to this square. Nothing else will happen,” General Yuri Khachaturov said in his speech at Freedom Square.

The Homeland Salvation Movement announced an emergency rally after the General Staff’s statement.

Khachaturov said that he recently heard the chair of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs, Andranik Kocharyan, say that they will fire upon the people. “I know him well. He doesn’t know what field to stay in. He’s in many places at once, and he’s not successful in any of them. He’s a sad person. He has never been at the frontlines. He wore a uniform and kept his beard as though he was a good man… although he did help the army somewhat in 1992, that was a long time ago and it has already been forgotten.”

Khachaturov spoke about the April War of 2016 and said that there are rumors that the Armenian side begged for the war to end. Khachaturov said that he swears upon his father’s grave that he never begged Turks for anything. “They were the ones who always begged us. They were always in our proximity, and they heard what we were going to say.”

Khachaturov said that it will be challenging to rebuild the army again and to ensure that people will smile once again. Vazgen Manukyan is able to do that, however, because he is bold and intelligent.
