“The Goris municipality was the trench for the individual you mentioned,” the mayor of the expanded Goris community, Arush Arushanyan, said during a press conference conducted by the administrative members of the Rebirth Armenia political party in reference to the My Step deputy Armen Khachatryan.
Armen Khachatryan had said, “All communities and employees actively participated in activities on the front during the war, as well as everyone in the country, but that does not mean that the country was in the kind of situation where mayors needed to form units and go fight the enemy.”
To continue, Arushanyan said, “If he meant that those communities did not face war, yes, he is right, we were not at the municipality offices during the entire war. Then, he said that after the war ended… I was at the frontlines on December 14-15. Sometimes, we came back and they replaced us.”
The mayor of Kajaran, Samvel Paramazyan, added, “When the Prime Minister came to Goris during the war, I saw Khachatryan twice and I asked Arushayan what Khachatryan is doing at the municipality. We were with our units at the frontlines carrying out the tremendous tasks and responsibilities that the Prime Minister called upon us to do on October 17th. Battles were taking place in Jabrayil, but he called upon community leaders to defend Syunik. We understood then what was happening. How would it be possible for battles to take place in Jabrayil, but the Prime Minister was calling upon us to defend Syunik? The distance between Syunik and Jabrayil is 80-100 kilometers. You can make conclusions about why we had to defend Syunik and not Kubatlu or Zangelan.”
