Well-known Armenian businessman Nubar Afeyan, whose Moderna Therapeutics biotechnology company, which produces the Moderna vaccine against the coronavirus, offered the vaccine to the Armenian government, but the latter rejected it. Nune Nersisyan, President of Paracelsus NGO and health expert, told Aravot Daily about this, noting that this was the information given to her. “According to rumors (but the information is from a person who is certain), Nubar Afeyan wanted to donate 2 million doses to Armenia, but the government refused to take a gift and offered to buy it with money. Nubar Afeyan also refused to sell it for money, and now it’s up in the air,” said Nune Nersisyan.
According to her, the whole world is fighting to get the Moderna vaccine, but we were able to get it as a gift. “This amount would have been for a population of about one million. In general, I cannot understand this logic. One dose of AstraZeneca costs about $26-28, but our government, according to the rumors, buys it for 4 dollars, and it is not clear why. I understand that they will not give an explanation for this.” In mid-September, Aravot Daily wrote that according to the Ministry of Health, negotiations to acquire Moderna continue. In order to verify the information that Nersisyan had, it was not possible to contact the press service of the ministry, so we will present the department’s clarification in the near future.
