“The ninth point of the November 9 document is a bomb that should have been fought against from the first day”: Emma Begijanyan

November 08,2021 15:00

“Now Iran is ready to do everything to build a road so that this ‘corridor’ does not work,” Iranologist Emma Begijanyan said during the discussion titled “Corridor or Road- What Should Armenia’s Position Be: 3 + 3 vs 3 + 2 vs 5 + 3.” She mentioned that in this respect, we should cooperate closely with Iran and substantiated, “All Iranian analysts, regardless of whether they are in the opposition or not, believe that Iran should do everything possible to prevent the so-called corridor from being implemented.”

Speaking about the 3 + 3 format, the Iran expert said, “This idea was raised by Iran immediately after the war, when Zarif circulated those five countries and Iran. Iran was angry about bringing the corridor to the agenda. This issue was brought to the agenda in Moscow again, this time in the version proposed by Iran. The format involves Turkey, Russia, Iran and three South Caucasus republics. However, Iran has always been of the opinion that regional issues should be resolved in the region through the superpowers of the region. Now that issue is on the agenda again. They thought to discuss this issue in the Astana format, but it is not possible, because Georgia in particular has opposed it.”

Emma Begijanyan reminded that when she read the document of November 9, she stated that the ninth point is a bomb that should have been fought against from the first day. “It is about the road, not the corridor, but it is mentioned that the Russians will control that road for five years. It is not even about the Russian peacekeepers, but it is mentioned that the Russian troops will control the road.”
