“Statements are often made from Azerbaijan, which are a mirror of the statements made in Armenia after 1994,” said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at an online press conference on Monday. In particular, after 1994, it was announced in Armenia that the Karabakh issue was resolved, or that Baku was an Armenian city, and now Aliyev says that the Karabakh issue is resolved.
“There is a certain element of revenge in those statements. That emotional circumstance is not good for the process. In the rational field, it is a question of whether Armenia recognizes or does not recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The talk about it is not understood correctly, but we must understand one thing: there is an agreement ratified by the RA Parliament, which is part of the RA legislation, which states that the RA recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the inviolability of borders. That agreement was ratified in 1992.”
In response to the question of what borders we recognized as part of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Pashinyan continued the thought in response. “Once the Madrid Principles have become the basis for negotiations, one of the principles there is the principle of territorial integrity, which both sides have accepted as the basis for negotiations. Since 1992, they have de jure recognized the inviolability and territorial integrity of the borders, moreover, within the existing borders and territories in the CIS. But it does not solve many nuances of the problem. And yes, the delimitation of borders is very important.
The Russian Foreign Minister recently stated that the demarcation and delimitation of the borders have nothing to do with the settlement of the Karabakh issue; they are different processes.” Pashinyan stated that a peace agreement should be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan and Armenia is ready for those talks.
