A person’s name must be capitalized

April 26,2022 10:30

As you know, there are many users on Facebook who write people’s names in lowercase. This says, “see how much I despise this person that I do not consider it appropriate to write their name in capital letters.” When I urged them not to do so, even my Facebook friends who do not have odious faces, began to object, “You are generally right, but this or that person is not human, and therefore there is every reason to humiliate them in this way.” It’s like the “excuses” for any bad deed. For example, “Of course, smoking or swearing is a bad thing, but it had reached my soul, I could not stand it anymore.”

However, the small, mundane pleasure that a person gets from smoking or writing their names in lower case will not be compared to the far-reaching negative consequences for the body and soul. Armenian politicians, as well as Aliyev, Putin, or Erdogan, do not suffer from that attitude; the person who writes in lowercase suffers. By hurting the human nature of someone (even the last scoundrel and criminal), you are hurting and harming yourself.  In the same way, if you write the name of a country in lower case, then you do not respect your country. Is it easier to defeat Azerbaijan or write the name of that country in small letters on Facebook?

I remembered all this because I recently saw on the same Facebook page that some people with distorted souls had posted a picture of a member of parliament they did not like on the animal’s body, and users with the same mental illness started posting that photo. It is as disgusting as putting wreaths in the names of living people. It is expected that they will still object to me based on the well-known song “what about them.”

But I see a clear line between not accepting the activities of this or that deputy, even condemning his hooligan behavior and denying the human nature of any person. If a person commits ugly acts, then, I think, our task should be to draw the attention of that person and society to the actions of that person. It is very likely that it will not change them or that they will not admit their mistakes, again with the excuse of “what about them.” But my job is not to rehabilitate anyone, my job (not to be arrogant) is to arouse good feelings in our society.

Violence (psychological and physical), cynicism, disbelief, hatred, and obsession with hurting others are not new in this world. It’s just that the age of social media has given people an unprecedented opportunity to express those feelings and qualities honestly. Moreover, they are the best-selling products today. Especially now, it must be countered.
