Today, the “Batsum” civil initiative submitted a letter of application to the UN office to open the Berdzor Corridor and transfer humanitarian goods, with the requirement of presenting clear deadlines.
Narek Ayvazyan, a member of the initiative, first read the application letter, where it is stated that they appreciate the efforts of the United Nations, which is trying to stop the humanitarian crisis created by the inhumane blockade by Azerbaijan. They ask for intervention for the transportation of cargo.
“The convoy at the Kornidzor border control point inspires hope that your ability to influence the situation is increasing and that the United Nations are finally hearing people in Artsakh. During the meeting with Mr. Niels Scott, Acting Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Armenia, at his invitation, we discussed our expectations from the United Nations, listened to his comments on the actions taken by the organization, and exchanged ideas on further steps to prevent hunger, epidemics, damage to people’s health and lives in Artsakh. By our agreement, with this letter, we are transmitting to you the second set of facts we collected with the residents of Artsakh, which includes personal documents, stories, and other audio-visual materials, which show the tragic consequences of the blockade on the lives of 120 thousand people, including older people, children, and other vulnerable groups.
We hope you will forward this letter to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as we agreed during our meeting with Mr. Niels Scott. Considering Mr. Scott‘s promise to make our meetings and discussions regular, we propose meeting with the members of our initiative and exchanging ideas, especially since you visited Kornidzor and witnessed the situation. We would highly appreciate receiving an answer to our written letters and discussions about why the humanitarian situation has gone out of the control of the Russian troops, why the presence of international, UN-mandated peacekeepers in Artsakh is becoming fatal, and we are appealing to the UN through an official procedure by the government of Armenia and Artsakh about delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Artsakh,” he said.
