Samvel Babayan, the former Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh, told on Public Radio that he crossed the Hakari Bridge without a “mask,” wearing “sportswear,” with a smile, and even waving to the Azerbaijani policemen. Still, they did not recognize him when even Artsakh resident Vagif Khachatryan was arrested because they confused him with Samvel Babayan’s driver. However, today, while passing through the Lachin Corridor, Azerbaijanis kidnapped Ruben Vardanyan, the former Minister of State of Artsakh.
In a conversation with Aravot.am, Tigran Abrahamyan, the Secretary of the “With honor” faction, said that today, many people are still in Artsakh and are in danger. “People who say that they passed very freely, without hindrance, looked at us and did not recognize us, are very suspicious. It is not the case that Azerbaijan does not take any measures, and thus, one can freely come and go. First of all, Samvel Babayan’s statements were not aimed at the special services of Armenia or the law enforcement system; this was essentially a signal, regardless of whether he did it for that reason or not, it was a greater impulse to the special services of Azerbaijan.
If he could pass in this situation, I don’t want anyone to be caught, regardless of my attitude. Still, if a person of that rank passes with general shoulder straps and announces he sounds an alarm to the Azerbaijani side to be careful at the checkpoints, this is too bad. With his statement that they don’t check passports, he endangered many people in Artsakh, whom Azerbaijan considers its enemy: people who have rendered great services to the motherland.
