Vahan Hovhannisyan Has Information That Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Supporters Were Threatened, but He Doesn’t Have Proof

April 26,2013 09:52

According to him, people were not allowed to come to a meeting with them.

Today the campaign meeting of the ARF was not in a backyard, but in a hall. The ARF was provided with the premises of School No. 189 in Davitashen. Considering that Raffi Hovhannisyan was denied room to establish organizational committees of new Armenia, www.aravot.am inquired of Vahan Hovhannisyan, a member of the ARF Bureau whether they had been provided with that hall easily. He replied: “No. With great difficulty, but you had better talk with our local comrades. I don’t know how it happened; I asked whether there hadn’t been a more convenient place, they said, ‘They didn’t give.’ It is good, we don’t complain; there is no problem.” In response to our question whether they could be accused of using educational centers for campaign purposes, Vahan Hovhannisyan said: “They will probably accuse. What can I do?” Vahan Hovhannisyan also told us that before their meeting had begun, neighborhood activists had wandered around the school premises and tried to

drive people away, not allowing them to come to the meeting with the ARF. We asked to clarify whether those had been neighborhood tough guys, he said: “I don’t think that they are tough guys, because they made threats about firing, they said, ‘You are a government worker, why are you going to listen to these oppositionists?’ This is related to government institutions. But unfortunately, such things are very hard to prove.”
