There is a lack of true experts

March 31,2015 12:38

I have not watched the Albania-Armenia football match as I was short of time. Instead, I see the comments on the match in the websites and on the Facebook, where thousands of descendants of Armenian people demonstrate themselves as unrivaled football experts. We indeed should be fans for our team, should demand high results from them and should complain about bad results. But to go deep into the details of the football profession, for example, in the layout schemes of the players or tactical nuances, I think, it is up to the experts. I can like or dislike this-or-that play and, naturally, tell my impressions, but the theater critic that has studied this profession for 5 years, should explain to me of what was valuable and incomplete in this play. We cannot be nationwide football experts or theater critics.

It’s another question that we seem do not have appropriate experts who would analyze the match “at the expertise level”, the way it is done by the Russian HTB TV commentators. Both during and after the match, our commentators do not say things that we, admirers, have not noticed. Perhaps that is why we do our amateur judgments about the football tactics.

As a journalist, I feel a lack of professionals in many fields, including the experts, meaning the people who have a certain reserve of knowledge, need to give a sense to this-or-that phenomenon. Especially, it is surprising almost the lack of military experts in a warring country. Naturally, the “vacant place” is filled with people that have never seen any weapon in their life, but begin making judgments about the military industry in a tone that seems they are at least Marshal Zhukov.

The self-styled “politicians” make a separate “army”. Fortunately, it does not occur to anyone’s mind to write an article or give a press conference by introducing himself as a physicist, geologist or obstetrician unless they have the appropriate qualification. But the Armenia is swarming with politicians. Usually, they are propagandists of this-or-that political force or a leader. It is absolutely not a reprehensible occupation, simply it has nothing to do with sciences. Science, in my view, is a system of knowledge about this-or-that industry, which requires a year-long study period for its proficiency. No specific knowledge is required for the level of judgments that “Poghos will save the nation while Petros will ruin it”. In this regard, the best politicians are the taxi drivers.

Back to the football, I must admit that I have not mastered the nuances of this game. But the life experience prompts me that the coach for Armenia’s team should be sought in Armenia.
