‘Nature is sacred, it endows with life’, David Barsamian

June 10,2017 14:40

A well-known American-Armenian journalist, David Barsamian delivered his next lecture at the “Media Initiatives Centre”, addressing the climate change and the dangers threatening humanity in this context. David Barsamian first highlighted the fact that the US President Donald Trump ignores the fact of the climate change, and considers it to be a “lie”, “He believes that there are no climate changes, which complicates the adoption of certain laws and society consolidation. Climate changes put our future at risk”.

The speaker pointed out that the consequences of climate changes are already evident, for example, in Yemen, “which will be the first country where fresh water supplies become depleted. Northern India is also considered to have little water supplies. 300 million people depend on the waters that start from Himalayas. If these resources decrease, the region will not be provided with agricultural product. As they say, if people have been fighting for gold or oil, now they will fight for water”.

Then David Barsamian remembered his ancestors migrated from Western Armenia, “Sometimes I ask the survivors why the genocide took place. I do not receive a satisfactory answer, besides the statements that the Turks are bad, that they came and killed Armenians. The economic causes of Genocide are not identified. Nationality does not matter, what matters is the human type. The danger comes from the human type, the one who ignores the issue of climate change”.

Then David Barsamian said that his ancestors worshiped nature, “I’m not talking from the religious point of view. Just nature is sacred, because it endows with life, it should not be polluted”.
