On 26 and 27 May, the southern Armenian cities of Kapan and Yeghegnadzor hosted the last regional Europe Day celebrations in the country. The celebrations were then concluded in the country’s capital of Yerevan on 2 June.
Before the start of the celebrations in Kapan, an EU-supported project on the “Introducing Construction Materials from Plastic Waste” (IES) project was presented to the Europe Day participants.
In Kapan and Yeghegnadzor, people gathered to participate in different activities involving music, dance, food, theatre and competitions. The Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski was among the audience.
In his speech, the EU Ambassador highlighted that this year’s Europe Day celebrations had taken on a lighter, more festive character. “The motto of this year’s celebration is ‘Europe is here’,” he said. “Europe is indeed very much in Kapan and Yeghegnadzor. We want to conduct more projects in these beautiful cities. We feel very much at home here thanks to your hospitality.”
The Europe Day celebrations took place in different parts of Armenia between 11 May and 2 June. Some regions were participating for the first time. The first regional open-air celebration took place in Ijevan on 12 May, before Hrazdan hosted the celebrations on 13 May. Europe Day then came to Vanadzor on 19 May and Gyumri hosted the celebrations on 20 May.
The embassies of 11 EU Member States to Armenia also joined the EU Delegation for their culture and entertainment events.
