In response to the journalists’ questions prior to the hearing at the Criminal Court of Appeal, commander of the Shushi special battalion, leader of the Founding Parliament oppositional movement Jirair Sefilian said that he is optimistic after the people’s movement and hopes he will soon be released.
Sefilian expressed his opinion that his release is a matter of days, but before that, all the political prisoners, including “Sasna Tsrer” should be released. He noted that he has much to say but will keep silence until all the political prisoners are released. Sefilian stressed that the release of these persons is a complicated issue, therefore, it is necessary to support the current authorities in this process, in particular, Nikol Pashinyan.
By the way, Sefilian refused to submit a petition for his release, stating that he will wait for court decisions on the same petitions for other persons in the case. Let us remind that Sefilian was found guilty of possessing illegal weapons and ammunition, attempting to seize buildings of strategic significance and preparing for mass disorders, and was sentenced to 10.5 years imprisonment. The Criminal Court of Appeal continues investigating his appeal, by which he demands to change the verdict of the first instance court.
