The demand for upcoming elections

September 28,2018 12:40

It seems that there are a few misunderstandings within the RPA faction of parliament regarding the National Assembly elections. It’s not that only Nikol Pashinyan wants such a solution, and it’s not that only the people who currently support the prime minister want that solution. It’s a sufficient solution for me and likely lots of other people, and it will give the government the possibility to fully work.

From what I understood, the main problem is how this group of people in parliament was elected. Was it legitimate or illegitimate? The problem is that the citizens, businessmen, Armenian and foreign investors (who are very important), and the rest of the world thinks that the current working government is just temporary. Whether we want it or not, it has created a waiting period, which makes people have a lower sense of responsibility.

The uncertain condition of Prosperous Armenia and its allied ministers is not an enviable one. On one hand, it’s clear that their political forces need to come out as the opposition, but on the other hand, the ministers must carry out their responsibilities to the best of their abilities to benefit the Pashinyan government. The RPA parliamentarians also need to understand that, for as long as they are in the National Assembly, they will be an easy target for the government and for its supporters, and anything that doesn’t go as planned or the way we want in our country will be blamed on them and will be justified by the difficult situation Pashinyan inherited. There are capable people within the RPA faction. The portion of them that really wants to be in politics needs to take a break. And those who have a high level of professionalism will not remain without work.

Sometimes, I hear the following critique: there need to be elections, but not any time soon. They say that we need to wait until the revolutionary euphoria passes and when the people will be lead by reason, not by emotions. They will create new political unions, and only then will we be able to have elections with idealistic and planned foundations. The judgment is solely theoretical, since a) people are unlikely be able to reasonably judge anything for as long as their hated Republicans are still in the National Assembly, b) the majority of voters will not be led by plans and ideas since the “Soviet generation” is still in the field, and c) outside of elections, political unions can’t stay together. It’s impossible to learn how to swim without entering the water. However, it’s necessary that the water isn’t dirty.
