“Of course, not right now, but parliamentary elections need to take place as soon as possible, and making advancements within the country should be the only issue on the agenda, without any inter-political issues,” said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on a Facebook live stream regarding holding parliamentary elections.
He announced that he will begin to hold discussions with forces in parliament and he hopes that they will come to an agreement. “I won’t have any preconditions for any method at the basis of these discussions, to be honest. The only precondition is that this is connected to the fact that the Yerevan City Council elections were to see if the people were for or against holding parliamentary elections. The “My Step” alliance received 81 percent of the votes, which is an unprecedented high number. This means that the people of Armenia have a clear demand that we need to hold parliamentary elections.”
Nikol Pashinyan said that the issue is to solve this problem in an environment of love and solidarity. “Holding parliamentary elections is unavoidable. They need to take place in Armenia as soon as possible since it’s important for the international community, potential investors, and businesspeople to be convinced that they can trust us soon enough to carry out their projects. The city council elections proved that the revolution in Armenia cannot be overthrown and there’s no doubt about it. Overall, I think that especially now after the elections, when people have calmed down a bit, I will discuss this issue with parliamentary forces and the leaders of parliament so that we can come up with a solution. If an issue comes up, if they express doubts regarding the opinion of the public, I think that we will also think about how to figure out the people feel and what their perspective is on a large scale. I don’t think that will be necessary, though.”
