Nikol Pashinyan’s opponents involved in speculations: Scholarly Society of Caucasus Studies President

January 22,2019 22:41

President of the Scholarly Society of Caucasus Studies, political analyst Alexander Krylov was asked by Armenian reporters about how the CSTO Secretary General scandal can be resolved. “If Armenia is successful in bringing changes to the CSTO laws, which will explain the process of recalling a Secretary General, then it is possible for Yerevan to govern until the term is complete. I think that this is the most viable option.”

Reporters also asked Krylov about the Artsakh conflict resolution, especially calls from the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group to both sides to “initiate step to prepare civilians for peace.” There was a similar tone in President of the United States Donald Trump’s congratulatory letter to Nikol Pashinyan on being elected Prime Minister. Alexander Krylov was reminded of the former American ambassador to Azerbaijan, and how he always said that the conflict would be resolved “next year.” Krylov noted that negotiations can go on for hundreds of years, but resolution can only come about when both sides come to a mutual understanding. At the moment, since both sides are moving in different directions, Krylov considers any statement about compromising present positions to be political suicide. Alexander Krylov also considers Nikol Pashinyan’s opponents who claim that he seeks to compromise Armenia’s position to simply be speculation.
