Prime Minister: ‘We must develop the capabilities of the joint Armenian-Russian military unit so it can become the most important tool for ensuring Armenia’s security’

March 29,2021 14:13

“No shots have been fired within our country during the post-war period over the past five months during this tense domestic political situation,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during his visit to the Myasnikyan village of the Armavir Province on Sunday as he met with residents. He also made this same statement during his visit to the Alashkert village.

The residents of Myasnikyan, Alashkert, and Aragats were interested in the judicial system. They were unsatisfied with the work of the judges and the way the March 1st trial was being held.

In response to questions about whether or not those responsible for the events of March 1st will be punished, Pashinyan quoted a statement made by one of the residents of Aragats.

“The residents of Aragats said that the wolves want to come to power again. Someone present said, ‘If they’re wolves, then we’ll choke them.’ Let no one hope to come to power at the people’s expense.”

The Prime Minister also mentioned in his speech that changes in the Armed Forces and army are crucial. He said that we must deepen our relations with Russia. “There is a joint Armenian-Russian military unit in Armenia, and we must develop its capabilities so that it becomes the most important and effective tool for ensuring Armenia’s security. But, on the other hand, the long-term program should not be war, but peace. The long-term plan should be that we look at our region from a different point of view. Our presumption and history dictates that we have many enemies in the region. But if we have many enemies in the region, it means that many others consider us their enemy. The more they consider us the enemy, the more we consider them the enemy, and this increase in mutual hostility leads to crises. We must be able to reconsider our assessment of the region, our position, and our attitude, of course, while encouraging and making it possible for others to do the same. Because if only we do that, we will not gain anything from it. We must be able to achieve a change in the atmosphere in the region as a whole.”

Nikol Pashinyan said that our country needs to have a railway.
