“You were announcing that Artsakh is Armenia and that’s it, so why aren’t you going to Artsakh?”: Eduard Sharmazanov to Nikol Pashinyan

January 18,2022 13:50

“It is obvious that Aliyev also understands that time may work to his detriment as they will never have a gift like the current authorities,” the RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov said at a press conference at the Hayeli press club on January 17.

According to him, Aliyev is in a hurry to get what Nikol Pashinyan promised. According to Eduard Sharmazanov, the reason for Aliyev’s behavior is the internal political and geopolitical situation in Armenia. He explained, “Today, Armenia is not able to defend its sovereignty and security or take a counter-step against the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem.

Seeing this, Aliyev tries to get the most out of it. The West-Russia conflict has reached its peak or negotiations have begun, but it is obvious that both sides are not ready to compromise or resolve the issue. Ilham Aliyev is trying to take advantage of the fact that our main or the main key player in the South Caucasus, Russia, is busy dealing with its relations with Ukraine, NATO, and Kazakh issues. Therefore, Aliyev is trying to aggravate the situation and get the opportunity to carry out demarcation and delimitation, which this government has promised him.”

Referring to the letter of the second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyanto Erdogan on football diplomacy with Turkey and the statements of the previous authorities on the readiness to start relations without preconditions, Eduard Sharmazanov said, “Yes, we were in favor of relations with Turkey without preconditions. But during the previous government, the negotiating positions of the Republic of Armenia were firm.

We did not lose Shushi and Hadrut, we did not have five thousand casualties, 41 km of the territory of Armenia was not occupied by Azerbaijan, 21 km of the Goris-Kapan road was not under the control of Azerbaijan, no Azerbaijani customs points were set. The current government is not leaving without preconditions, but as a result of its three and a half years of genocidal policy, it has met all the conditions in Turkey.

Stand up, take out Robert Kocharyan’s letter of 2005, talk about football diplomacy. Let’s just say I was not the last official then. Armenia’s football diplomacy was about removing Turkey from the Karabakh process, and today’s Armenian-Turkish processes are about bringing Turkey closer to the Armenian-Turkish process.” Speaking about Ruben Rubinyan’s candidacy, he said, “Whoever went under this government would follow their instructions. Who would have gone under this government to serve national interests? Going to establish relations with Turkey today is like committing suicide.”

Recalling Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that Artsakh is Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov noted, “A year and a half has passed since the war. The so-called head of this government did not go to Artsakh. You were saying that Artsakh is Armenia and that’s it. So why aren’t you going to Artsakh, or is Artsakh already Azerbaijan, as they think?”
