“After the snap elections of 2021, there was talk of overcoming the political crisis in Armenia. However, if the crisis preceding the election was a consequence of the war, then the war itself was a consequence of that great crisis in Armenia, which has not been overcome, continues and will continue, perhaps, until a legitimate government and a legitimate opposition are formed in Armenia at the same time. Party chairman Arman Babajanyan said at the extraordinary 3rd congress of the “Rally for the Republic Party” party.
He believes effective opposition is the key to getting a qualitatively new government. Arman Babajanyan also referred to the reform of the army, saying that we suffered a crushing defeat because Armenian diplomacy, which gave way to Russia, was defeated. Life showed that there was no sign of allied relations there. Being tied to Russia by an umbilical cord for 30 years, Armenia failed; now, according to him, correcting that fundamental mistake and diversifying military-political cooperation is necessary.
Speaking about Armenian-Turkish relations, he said. “We can stand on the Armenian-Turkish border as a whole nation and shout that the Turk is our enemy. This will neither increase our strength nor weaken Turkey; nothing will change. And that is the trap we have been kept in and continue to be in. A trap so that Armenian statehood will not be able to change anything in this region, and the dominance of the Russian-Turkish format, restored by the Artsakh war, will prevail. Rejection of RA’s relations with Turkey is Russia’s only reliable foothold in this region.”
