There Have Been No Cases of Anthrax in Syunik

October 29,2012 20:51

There are no cases of anthrax in the region of Syunik. This is what Samvel Tangyan, the head of the agriculture and environment protection department, regional administration of Syunik, said during a meeting with journalists today.

According to Mr. Tangyan, there is a strict control in the region, in order to prevent the anthrax’s entrance into the region. “Veterinarian measures, sanitary conditions are under strict control in the region and the entrance of cattle from other regions into our region is supervised, the cattle entering the region must be checked and vaccinated. That vaccination

must be carried out in our villages by 100% if possible. Today there is no enthusiasm among villagers to take veterinary measures for their cattle, since they think that the veterinarian should come and tell them to take those measures. There is a certain progress today, however, since roughly 10-15 years ago, one had to ask a villager to do that,” Mr. Tangyan stated and added that every cattle-owner, every resident had to realize that his family’s health depended on checking for brucellosis, carrying out a vaccination against anthrax etc. “Measures should be taken in order not only to rescue the animal, to prevent it from being infected, but also to avoid spreading the virus among humans,” Samvel Tangyan said during a press conference.

According to the official, as of today, there are no cases of infection with other diseases in the region either and there have been none year-to-date.
