Are the President’s words nothing for Surik Khachatryan?

August 01,2015 16:55

“To be a member of the Republican Party is a responsibility,” announced the President of the Republic of Armenia and the RPA, Serzh Sargsyan, on March 10, 2012, at the RPA Congress, later on, also clarifying, “each member of the Republican Party is responsible for the actions of his nearby.” Given the statements by the leader of the country and the ruling political party, Aravot.am asked the Republican MP Mkrtich Minasyan, as an implementer of the President’s commandment, who the Syunik Governor, Surik Khachatryan, should be responsible for his son’s actions. “I think that if the law acts at its full capacity, be it related to the case of Surik Khachatryan, his son or another official, this is a responsibility and being deprived of the opportunity from preferential situation. In other words, I’m responsible for my children’s and grandchildren’s actions to the extent that the law should be complete towards them, but I probably should not be taken to the scaffold for, let’s say, one of my relatives or nearby has not behaved himself/herself right and should be punished by the full length of the law,” said the RPA MP.

To the observation that maybe it’s worth quitting the occupied position instead of the scaffold, he countered, “It should be up to him. I think he should make a decision appropriate to his political and human image. Every person, first and foremost, is responsible to himself, his family and his community where he lives and also build the ideological, to which he is a member, in this case, before the party”.

We noticed that the names of Surik Khachatryan, his relatives and nearby are in circulation in the press for years under the subject of various illegalities and violence. Mkrtich Minasyan said that he understands in what direction we divert the conversation and added that henceforth, all of that are publications in the press and he will not allow himself to implement the function of the court by neglecting the presumption of innocence. “I think that the judicial authorities and the investigative agencies, those who receive wages at the expense of the citizens of Armenia and expand their activities, are obligated to carry out their functions fully. If they do and it becomes clear that someone, including Surik Khachatryan, has committed things that are prosecutable by the law and are not appropriate for taking a heading position, it is another matter. But since there is no such document … Everything should be done within the law.”
